Lakeshia Ekeigwe
Lakeshia Ekeigwe is happily married to her
husband of 5 years and resides in Southern California. She likes to
say she has always been a talker. Her mother said she started talking
at 7 months of age and never stopped. Lakeshia loves language and the
beauty of words. She is an avid reader and along with talking and
reading, loves to write. As a young girl, Lakeshia wrote stories and
poetry for her elementary school newspaper. Though a speaker and a
writer all her life, she fell into a career in the legal field, and remained
there for 20 years. Her career has ranged from assisting attorneys in
various fields of law; teaching college Legal Office Procedures and Legal
Assisting courses; to facilitation and mediation for the Dispute Resolution
Program of the Office of the City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles.

While on this career path, and having had
various life experiences that framed and shaped her choices, Lakeshia
realized she had a lot to say and that she could share some of what she
learned along the way. She believed her lessons learned could
genuinely help others. Lakeshia, Neva and several friends decided to
form an organization designed to train, mentor, guide
and coach women and girls though a series of seminars and workshops. The
organization’s largest client was the Housing Authority for City of Los
Angeles. They also worked with programs such as the Maxine Waters Employment
Preparation Center and similar organizations. Over the years,
the joy of working with women and girls and witnessing first-hand the
life changing experiences they had when being exposed to transformative life strategies was inspiring.
It fuels her passion and
increases her joy.
That work led to Lakeshia and Neva
writing The Truth About Being Single. At the time, Lakeshia and Neva
were both single. It was amazing to them the things single women were told,
said, did and believed. They both personally knew many women who were
single but wanted to be married who were exhibiting behaviors consistent
with those who had low or no self-esteem and were not self-aware.
Consequently, just as they did for the women and girls they trained,
mentored, guided and coached through their organization, they decided to
apply the same dedication and passion to the issues single women face as
well as to be a voice of truth for single women. A liberating voice to say,
it is ok and normal that being single does not feel good when you would
rather be married; a teaching voice to say go and make the best of who you
are by broadening your horizons and getting to know yourself; and an
encouraging voice to tell you to never give up on love. So, Lakeshia and
Neva wrote this book and designed workshops, seminars and webinars that are conducted
online and around the country to voice The Truth About Being Single.

NEVA
LOCKHART
Neva Lockhart resides
in sunny Southern California where she has lived most of her life, except
for
a short stay in Texas. She is still enjoying
her single life. However, she is a true believer in love and marriage.
She also
believes everyone should be true to themselves.
Neva's belief is this: Love comes to those who want it.
Neva's mother told her she was always a talker and loved to entertain.
Her teachers suggested she look into
a career in Law. She
seriously considered Law as a profession until she discovered that her love
for people goes far beyond defending or prosecuting them. She wanted
to talk and to listen.
Neva wanted to
help people
and to gain their trust by having one on one heartfelt discussions with them. She wanted to share as well. Neva also loved
business strategic management, the 'ins and outs' of making a business
succeed. She found the profession that would allow her to do just that
and became a Salon Owner
and Stylist. Neva was also a co-founder of an organization which
trained, mentored, guided and coached women and
girls though a series of seminars and workshops.
For 30 years now, she has been a
successful businesswoman, problem solver, mentor, confidante, counselor,
therapist and coach.
Through all of this, Neva has learned a lot and
gained valuable life experiences. As taught by her "no nonsense" mother,
Neva firmly believes one can learn and apply life lessons
from the experiences of others and using basic common sense. When you
do so, there is really not much you cannot accomplish, including making good
choices for yourself in all aspects of your life. Neva stresses the
value of learning from the experiences of others.
Neva was intrigued by the concern single
women had about being single and wanting to be married and how dismissive
and degrading modern society seems to react to this very natural desire. She
knew it was time to do something. The book and workshops have provided
a forum which has opened the way for many conversations and deep discussion
among women and men, married and single. Knowing the many lies we had been
told, Neva felt she just had to tell the truth about at least one aspect of
being single. Lakeshia and Neva put their thoughts to pen and paper and came up with
The Truth About Being Single.
The authors believe you will
find
The Truth About Being Single just makes sense.
